So I saw Mother Mother this past week, & as expected it was nothing short of fabulous.
I think I'll try to recount the evening at Lee's Palace in order of what happened.
Once we were situated in the venue, happy in our spot of the night with a great view of the stage, we noticed what appeared to be a little bit of unnecessary PDA going on in front of us. It was girl on girl, though probably better described as ghoul on ghoul. Not because they were done up in Halloween garb, let me assure you. The one girl resembled Matt Damon. I know that doesn't sound too bad, but when it has a vagina in it's pants, that is corrupt, kids.
Now don't get me wrong. I really have no problem with gay couples may they be guys or gals. In my humble opinion, you be with who makes you happy & that's that; cool. It's the Public Display of Affection that chaps my ass, gay or straight. I think there's a universal understanding that PDA is frowned upon, so for those doing it, it's gotta be on purpose. There is no way that two people can believe that it's all right to poke at each others butt holes over top of their jeans when they have people standing right behind them, gasping in horror. With that said, I have no problem poking fun at them, or talking about them in my blog.
I'm not a judgmental person & I respect people for who they are for the most part, but when you ask for it.. see me spit.
Aside from this, I somewhat regretted not drinking. Everybody around me was drinking & I felt like I was drowning in a sea of beer burps. Gross.
The opening act was Hannah Georges. From what she displayed, I liked. She had a calm yet confident stage presence & a voice comparable to Emily Haines.
Fast forward to Mother Mother.
I love this band with all I've got.
They sounded amazing & were tight as always. It's hard to believe that this band has been together for only about what, five years? Incredible.
They actually played more from Touch Up (first album) than O My Heart, which I found surprising. Luckily I've familiarized myself with their first album over the past few months, & really dig it. Both albums are entirely different, though, for those of you who are unfamiliar with it.
They also jammed out some new tunes from their upcoming album. I was a little skeptical when they played the first one, as it sounded awfully catchy in the sweet-sugar-pop, radio friendly kind of way. It lacked the staple randomness that is delivered in most Mother Mother songs, which is hard to put into words. It actually reminded me of one 80s song I truly despise, Jesse's Girl. Gag! The other few songs they played seem good, though. So, I really am looking forward to what Mother Mother has to put forth, though based on the new stuff I've heard from The Stills & Mother Mother, I am looking more forward to The Stills new album.
Having two favourite bands is pretty awesome.
Anyway, I do feel like pointing out a few minor disappointments from the show. It's nothing that the band really did wrong, I guess it's just me being a spoiled brat musically.
When the band played Wrecking Ball, Ryan picked at his electric guitar, instead of playing it on acoustic like it's originally done. Little difference, but still slightly saddening.
Also, in Body of Years, they neglected one of my favourite parts of the song.
Here is the song. At 3:02 in, the bridge of the song commences.
Soft, delicate. Then at 3:33, make sure your volume is up, the drums & bass come in again very lightly, & gradually. It sounds genius, & is one of those parts of a song that you hear on disc or on the radio & think, "I wonder how they pull that off live?"
Well, Mother Mother does pull it off live. Even if they are doing an acoustic set, they pull it off live.

So anyway, they belt out Body of Years, & I start pinching Greg as the "part" approaches, because I've talked it up to him for months now, & what do they do? Break into a random jam session instead. What.. the.. eff. I mean, the jam session sounded awesome, no doubt about it. BUT I WANTED TO HEAR MY PART!!!! D:
They also skipped a few songs off of O My Heart that I was looking forward to hearing live, having grown a greater appreciation for these songs since I'd last seen the band play, such as Burning Pile, Body & Try To Change, but hey. I enjoyed nonetheless.
& I just practically ate a whole bag of Cheddar Bits & Bites. That's enough fat assery for one day.
